How the metallography equipment works as a sequence
Seven of the eleven items form one continuous specimen-preparation workflow, and they are most usefully specified together rather than line by line. A metal sample is sectioned on the cut-off wheel machine, mounted in Bakelite, ground flat on the hand grinder and dry belt surfacer, squared on the specimen leveller, and finished on the single disc polishing machine before it can be examined. Buying part of that sequence leaves the laboratory unable to complete a specimen.
Two consequences follow for procurement. First, if any step is bought from a different supplier, confirm that specimen mount diameters match across machines — a mount that fits the polishing head but not the leveller stops the workflow.
