What Is the Concrete Test Hammer Used For?

A test hammer gives a non-destructive comparison of concrete in place: a spring-driven mass strikes a plunger held against the surface, and the distance it rebounds gives a reading related to surface hardness and, through a correlation, to compressive strength. The test area is first smoothed with the grinding stone, the hammer is pressed square to the surface until it fires, and a series of readings is taken and averaged for each location. Comparing locations shows where the concrete in a structure is weaker or stronger, within the range of 10 to 70 N/mm². The standards listed are EN 12504-2 and ASTM C805.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the concrete test hammer measure?
It evaluates the surface hardness of hardened concrete, which is used to assess the strength of the concrete in different parts of a structure without damaging it.

What are the measuring range and impact energy of the hammer?
The hammer covers a measurement range of 10 to 70 N/mm² and delivers an impact energy of 2.207 Nm.

What is the grinding stone for?
The grinding stone is used to smooth the test area and remove loose surface material, so that the plunger strikes a clean, flat patch of concrete.

What is included with the test hammer and how heavy is it?
It comes in an aluminium case measuring 190 × 100 × 350 mm, together with a carrying case, grinding stone and instruction manual, and weighs approximately 1.5 kg.

Which standards are listed for the test hammer?
The standards listed are EN 12504-2 and ASTM C805 for the surface hardness test on hardened concrete.

How is an enquiry for the test hammer sent?
