What Is the V Funnel Test Apparatus Used For?

Flow time shows how readily self compacting concrete moves through a narrow opening: a mix that drains slowly may be too viscous, while one that drains very fast may be prone to segregation. With the lid shut, the funnel is filled to the top through the filling hopper and the surface is levelled; the lid is then opened and the time taken for the funnel to empty, watched from above, is recorded as the V funnel flow time. The test is not used for mixes whose aggregate exceeds 22.4 mm. The standard listed for the funnel is EN 12350-9.
