The velocity of an ultrasonic wave in concrete is affected by its elastic property or strength. The Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity Tester applies high voltage and sends it to a transmit transducer to generate an ultrasonic wave, which then reaches the receive transducer through the concrete. When the elastic property or strength of concrete is high, the transit time is short; on the other hand, when the materials are contrary, the velocity is low. By accurately measuring the ultrasonic transit time, it becomes possible to evaluate a material or find its elastic properties nondestructively, to investigate uniformity, cavities, cracks, fire/frost damage, delaminating, deterioration and strength.
