Soil Sampler, Cutter and Extruder
Product Code : EL-STLE-10404
Soil Sampler, Cutter and Extruder (code EL-STLE-10404) is a rack and pinion device for cutting test specimens from a soil core and extruding them ready for consolidation, shear, triaxial, permeability and other soil mechanics tests. The cutter is pushed gently into the core by the rack and pinion and the specimen is then pushed out with the extrusion dolly, with circular, cylindrical and square cutters available to suit the test.

What Is the Soil Sampler, Cutter and Extruder Used For?
Laboratory tests on soil need specimens of exact size and shape with as little disturbance as possible, so that the measured strength, compressibility or permeability reflects the soil in the ground. The operator sets the soil core under the cutter, pushes the cutter into it steadily with the rack and pinion, trims the ends and then uses the extrusion dolly to push the specimen out. A circular ring suits a consolidation specimen, a square cutter a direct shear specimen and a cylindrical cutter a triaxial specimen.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of sampler, cutter and extruder units required.
- Cutters — the circular, cylindrical or square cutters needed for the tests to be performed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which tests can samples be prepared for?
It prepares soil samples for consolidation, shear, triaxial and permeability tests, as well as for other soil mechanics tests.
How is the cutter pushed into the soil?
A rack and pinion mechanism pushes the cutter gently into the soil core, after which the specimen is extruded with the extrusion dolly.
What cutter shapes are available?
Circular, cylindrical and square cutters are available, and the shape is chosen according to the geotechnical test to be performed.
