What Is the Viscosampler PTFE/FEP Used For?

Thick, sticky materials such as sludges, sediments and creams will not run into an ordinary dip sampler or pipette, so they are drawn up by suction instead. The operator lowers the sampler into the material, draws the sample up with the filter flask and then uses the flask to discharge it into a container. PTFE and FEP are chemically inert fluoropolymers that release almost nothing into the sample, and the transparent body lets the operator see how much has been taken. Between samples the sampler is dismantled at its round-profile threads and cleaned, and the crevice-free surfaces leave residues nowhere to collect.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — the number of Viscosamplers required.
  • Material — PTFE/FEP, or the PP version.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which substances is the Viscosampler meant for?
Slime, slurries, wet clay and soil samples, sediments, oils, emulsions and creams are the kinds of tough substance it was designed to take up.

How does it take up the sample?
A filter flask provides the suction: it sucks the material up into the sampler and is also used to discharge it again.

What are the sampler's dimensions?
The PTFE/FEP sampler has a length of 600 mm and a diameter of 32 mm, and its material is highly transparent.

Why do non-porous, crevice-free surfaces matter?
Surfaces without pores or crevices give dirt and sample residue nowhere to collect, and the round-profile threads, suitable for food hygiene applications, let the sampler be taken apart for cleaning.

Is a version in another material available?
Yes. Besides the PTFE/FEP version described on this page, the sampler is available in PP (polypropylene).
