What Is the Average Least Dimension Used For?
The least dimension of an aggregate particle is its smallest measurement, normally its thickness when it lies on its flattest face, and the average of this value over a sample is used in work such as the design of surface dressings, where a single layer of chips is spread on a binder. The operator uses the ALD box with the adjustable spacer set for particles in the 2-9 mm range, or fits the spacer set extension for sizes of 10-18 mm, and from the measurements works out the average least dimension of the sample.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Average Least Dimension device measure?
It measures the average least dimension, or ALD, of fine aggregates, the mean of the smallest dimension of the particles in a sample.
What is included with the device?
It comes complete with an ALD box, an adjustable spacer, one spacer set/fine aggregates spare case and a spacer set extension.
What particle sizes can be measured?
The adjustable spacer covers fine aggregates in the 2-9 mm range, and the spacer set extension takes the range on to 10-18 mm.
What is the least dimension of a particle?
It is the smallest of a particle's measurements, usually its thickness when the particle rests on its flattest face, and it is averaged over the sample to give the ALD.
