Sample Splitter (code EL-ATLE-10464) is a divider for cutting down sand and aggregate samples that are too large in volume to handle conveniently into smaller portions for laboratory testing. It accepts material from sand sizes up to 108 mm diameter through 12 mm wide chute bars giving openings from 12 mm to 108 mm, and it has a 30 litre clam shell hopper, a cadmium-plated body and two collecting pans.

What Is the Sample Splitter Used For?

A field sample of sand or aggregate is normally much larger than a grading or other laboratory test requires, and taking a handful from the top of the heap can leave the coarse or fine particles under-represented. With the splitter, the operator releases the whole sample from the hopper across the chutes, which share it between the two collecting pans; the contents of one pan are put aside and the other pan is split again until a test portion of the right size is left. The chute opening is chosen to suit the largest particle, up to 108 mm. The standards listed for it are EN 932-5, EN 933-3, EN 932-1 and ASTM C 136.
