What Is the Wide Wheel Abrasion Testing Machine Used For?
In the wide wheel test, a paving block, flag, kerb or stone slab is pressed against a steel wheel while abrasive sand is fed into the contact zone, and the length of the groove worn into the specimen after a set number of revolutions indicates its abrasion resistance. The operator clamps the specimen, fills the sand feed with corundum, sets the digital counter and starts the machine, which stops by itself at the end of the count before the groove is measured. The narrow wheel version applies the same principle to unglazed tiles, grouts and clay pavers.
