What Is the Capping Set Horizontal Used For?

Concrete cylinders rarely have ends that are flat and square to the axis, and uneven ends concentrate the load during a compression test and lower the measured strength, so each end is given a thin, flat layer of capping compound. The cylinder is lifted with the carrier into the split holders, the removable top halves are bolted down, and molten compound is poured from the ladle through the V openings against the plates; when it has hardened the holders are opened and the capped cylinder removed. The standards listed are IS: 516 1959, BS 1881-120, ASTM C31 and C 617.
