Water Level Indicator

Water Level Indicator

Product Code : EL-STLE-10402

Water Level Indicator (code EL-STLE-10402) is a portable electric contact meter for measuring water level and total depth in bore holes, wells, observation pipes and reservoirs, and for controlling pumping tests. When the probe electrode touches the water a signal lamp lights and an audible alarm sounds, the level is read on the measuring tape in metres and centimetres, and cable lengths of 50, 100, 150 and 200 m are available.

What Is the Water Level Indicator Used For?

Groundwater level is recorded during site investigation, in standpipes and observation pipes, and before and during pumping tests, because it affects excavation, foundation design and the stability of slopes. The operator lowers the probe on its tape down the borehole or pipe until the light and alarm show that the electrode has reached the water, then reads the depth on the tape at the top of the casing. Repeated readings during a pumping test show how far the water level is drawn down and how quickly it recovers afterwards.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — the number of water level indicators required.
  • Cable length — 50 m, 100 m, 150 m or 200 m, chosen to exceed the deepest water level to be measured.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can the water level indicator be used?
It is used in bore holes, wells, observation pipes and reservoirs to measure both the water level and the total depth, as well as for controlling pumping tests.

How does the instrument signal that water has been reached?
Contact between the probe electrode and the water surface completes the circuit, which lights the signal indicator and sounds an audible alarm.

Which cable lengths are offered?
Four versions are available, with cable lengths of 50 m, 100 m, 150 m and 200 m, to suit the depth of the boreholes or wells to be measured.

In what units is the level read?
The water level is read directly on the measuring tape, which is marked in metres and centimetres.

What should be included in an export enquiry?
Give the cable length and quantity needed, the destination country and port or city, the delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, any packing requirements and any tender reference.
