What Is the Soil Prospecting Kit Used For?
During site investigation a kit of hand tools lets a field team bore shallow holes, log the soil layers and recover samples without bringing in a drilling rig. The operator fits the auger head that suits the ground, turns it with the T handle and adds 1 m extension rods as the hole deepens, using the Stillson wrenches to make up and break the rod joints. Samples can be taken in the 38 × 230 mm stainless steel tubes, sealed with the plastic end caps for transport, and later pushed out with the hand extruder for laboratory testing.
