Rotary Air Compressor Test Bench

Rotary Air Compressor Test Bench

Product Code : EL-TELE-10710

Rotary Air Compressor Test Bench (code EL-TELE-10710) is a laboratory set-up in which a rotary vane compressor, driven by a 3 HP electric motor, is tested to find its volumetric and isentropic efficiency, power consumption and free air delivery. Intake air is measured by a calibrated orifice meter with water manometer, discharge pressure by a pressure gauge and power input by an energy meter, and sensors with digital displays send their readings to a PC via USB.

What Is the Rotary Air Compressor Test Bench Used For?

Free air delivery is the quantity of air a compressor delivers, expressed as a volume at the free air conditions of its intake, and together with the work done on the air it shows how well the compressor turns electrical input into compressed air. Students run the vane compressor, set different delivery pressures with the control valve, and at each one read intake air flow on the orifice manometer, discharge pressure on the gauge and power input on the energy meter, using the stop clock for timed readings. From the results they calculate isentropic and actual work, volumetric and isentropic efficiency and free air delivery, and plot the efficiencies against delivery pressure.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — the number of test benches required.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of compressor is tested?
A rotary vane compressor driven by a 3 HP electric motor, with a control valve on the delivery side for setting the delivery pressure.

How are air intake and power input measured?
Air intake is measured by a calibrated orifice meter with water manometer, and the power input by an energy meter; a pressure gauge reads the discharge pressure.

What do students calculate from the readings?
They determine isentropic work, actual work, volumetric efficiency, isentropic efficiency and free air delivery at different delivery pressures, then plot the efficiencies against delivery pressure and comment on the plot.

Can the data be recorded on a computer?
Yes. The readings appear on digital displays and are sent at the same time to a PC via USB, using the data acquisition software included.

What safety devices are fitted?
The trainer is equipped with pressure relief valves and pressure switches to protect the compressed air system during tests.

What floor space and weight should be planned for?
The bench measures 1500 × 1500 × 1250 mm (L × W × H) and weighs approximately 320 kg.
