Gyroscope Experiment Manual
Product Code : EL-DOMLE-10773
Gyroscope Experiment Manual (code EL-DOMLE-10773) is an educational gyroscope for demonstrating gyroscopic phenomena and for determining gyroscopic laws quantitatively through practical experiments. A 250 mm diameter, 1500 g disc on dual ball bearings sits at one end of a shaft that tilts and turns on a stand rod, balanced by a 1400 g counterweight, with a movable 50 g weight to apply external torque and a scale reading -40° to +40° in 1° divisions.

What Is the Gyroscope Experiment Manual Used For?
A spinning disc resists changes to the direction of its axis, and when a torque acts on that axis it precesses, turning slowly about a vertical axis instead of simply tipping. With the shaft balanced level by the counterweight, thumbscrew and spirit level, students spin the disc by hand or with the cord, then move the 50 g weight along the shaft to apply a known external torque and watch the shaft precess, reading its inclination on the scale. Timing the precession for different disc speeds and torques lets them check the gyroscopic laws quantitatively.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is this gyroscope used for?
It is used to demonstrate gyroscopic phenomena and to determine gyroscopic laws quantitatively in practical experiments, with an open construction that keeps every movement visible.
What are the disc's size and mass, and how is it spun?
The disc is 250 mm in diameter with a mass of 1500 g. It is set spinning by hand or with a cord and runs on dual ball bearings.
How is the shaft balanced?
A movable 1400 g counterweight on the side opposite the disc establishes equilibrium, a thumbscrew at the shaft end gives fine adjustment, and a spirit level sets the unit horizontal.
How is an external torque applied?
An additional weight of 50 g is provided; it can be moved along the shaft to generate the external torque on the gyroscope.
What angles can be read?
The scale shows the shaft's angle of inclination from -40° to +40° with divisions of 1°.
What are the overall size and weight?
The apparatus measures approximately 400 × 300 × 400 mm and weighs 15 kg, with the shaft attached to a stand rod.
